Guide: Add map tab to Facebook page

This guide will show you step-by-step how to share your map via a tab on your facebook fan page (it will not work for personal profiles due facebook limitations).

If you have not already done so then you should first create a map using the myGeoBook editor for facebook:

The next step is to click on the little share icon  next to the name of your map and pick "Add your map to Facebook tab". This will give you the map id that you need to complete the instructions below.

You can also choose "Share via e-mail" to a get a simple URL you can post to your newsfeed but that is of course less cool than adding a tab with a permanent map :)

Step1

You need to create a separate HTML page that will contain the map.

You can either use the link below for a quick solution:

Simple (no need to host your own page):

http://mgbembeddedmap.mygeobook.com/FacebookMap.aspx?mapid=INSERT MAPID HERE

Advanced (you have to host your own page but has 100% control over look and feel):

Or alternatively you can choose the advanced option and create your own HTML. Click here to read the advanced instructions .

For the purpose of this example let's say that the URL for this page is http://domain.com/map_tab.html

Step 2

Create an application on Facebook by accessing this link : http://www.facebook.com/developers/createapp.php

Choose an appropriate name for this application so that other users can search and find your application:

Step 3

Configure your application. All you have to configure is in the “Facebook Integration” tab from the menu available when editing an application. You should insert the “Tab Name” (this is the title used also in the pages tabs) and the “Tab URL” that points to the page you created at Step 1. After filling in these fields you have to save the changes.

Step 4

Add your application as a tab on your pages on Facebook.

Go the newly created app profile page.

When you get to the application profile page you will see a link “Add to My Page” in the left hand side, right under the “Category” title/zone.

Step 5

Select the page where you want the tab application to be available.

That's it - you now have a nice map tab that your users can access on your facebook fan page!
